A few weeks ago I shared in this post that I learned how to do this amazing thing called "newspaper nails." Since I love words, and reading, and books, it has inevitably become my favorite manicure. Want to learn the how-to?
First, gather your supplies. You will need white nail polish, newspaper, rubbing alcohol, and clear shiny polish for the top coat.
Step one: Grab some newspaper and cut it into pieces big enough to cover your nails. You can even find specific words you want and spell things, though the letters do show up backwards.
Step two: Paint your nails white. A light beige or other similar colors should work fine, too. Make sure your nails are completely dry before moving on to the next step!
Step three: Dip a piece of newspaper into the rubbing alcohol and saturate them well. I pour a little into the bottle's cap and dip the pieces in that way.
Step four: Press the bit of newspaper on your fingernail hard for about three seconds and peel it off. I find that pressing down hard helps the words to come off darker, but you don't want to leave the paper on too long because the alcohol will cause your nail polish to smear.
Step five: Top coat time! Paint on a generous layer of shiny polish to protect your design.
Now admire your creation; and try not to chip your nails the first day like I all-too-often do.

I need to try this. Really simple beautiful tutorial!
ReplyDelete:)
that sounds cool i will definetly try it!
ReplyDeleteSo darn cute!! :) I really need to try this!
ReplyDeleteyours are gorgeous! I am definitely going to do this! :)
ReplyDeleteI love doing this! :)
ReplyDeleteMy problem is that whenever I paint my nails it doesn't even stay on for a day--I'm always chipping them or the paint comes off while doing the dishes. ;)
I've been meaning to do this for awhile now...after my current purple nail polish chips off. (:
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome! I so have to try this! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is such a fun idea. Love it! Thanks for sharing! <3
ReplyDeleteI've been fascinated with this ever since you first posted about it -- my sister and I are definitely going to give it a go, so I really appreciate the tutorial. It looks really cool!

your's look so much better then mine.....i don't think I rubbed the newspaper on the nails hard enough, the letters were so faint.....maybe i'll give it another go!
ReplyDeleteLove it, I have been waiting to try this one!
ReplyDeleteGreat tutorial!
ReplyDeleteSo cute. You should know, Kalei has already done them (while we were working outside, it should be mentioned). But they were really cute, I can't wait to do them myself. ;)

ReplyDeleteThis turned out great! What a cool idea. I'd love it if you'd add this to my link party over at http://raegunwear.blogspot.com/2011/11/link-party-what-we-wore-and-made_29.html I'm hoping to do an ornament round up soon.
ReplyDelete...brainstorm! What if you type a Word Document backwards and print it and use the same technique :o I'm gonna try it soon :)
ReplyDeletei tryed it with a word document but it didnt work.
Deleteit might matter what kind of printer you have though. the ink on my paper just didnt want to come off.
hop this helps!
you would have to make sure that it is an ink jet and not a laser jet.
DeleteIt works with Peroxide too if you don't have rubbing alcohol. AND you can use colored ink from magazines! I have a fb symbol on one of my nails because I cut it out of a magazine lol.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! I luv this, I tried it and the results were awsome! Super cute
ReplyDeleteI so need to try this! Ive seen these newspaper nails before but i never knew how to do them!
ReplyDeletethanks so much!
looks so cute! Just completed! Used a bright blue under the newspaper looks awesome! :D
ReplyDeleteI tryed this but it didnt work. it think it was because i used water based nail polish.
ReplyDeletebut i will try it later on with non-water based nail polish.
i love this i'll try this first thing in the morning...love it
ReplyDeletethat is an awesome idea.
ReplyDeletei will do this!!!
ReplyDeletei dont have rubbing alcohol...is there anything else I can use as an alternative?
ReplyDeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteI love this sooo much but can anyone please tell me
ReplyDeletean alternative for rubbing alcohol PLEASE. I want to do this sooo much.
I'm so sorry, but I haven't tried it with anything besides rubbing alcohol. I believe someone mentioned that hydrogen peroxide also works, but rubbing alcohol probably works the best. You can find it in any store in the first aid area. Hope you're able to try it out soon. :)
Deletei want to try it but i can not. i am a boy:)
ReplyDeletemust give it a try,x
ReplyDeletesuuuch!!! a nail fanatic & no i wont try it this is a must do!!!!
ReplyDeletethis is SO cool. unbelievably creative idea. it ACTUALLY worked!!

ReplyDeleteI cut little pictures out of the comic section of the paper and it turned out really well. it has the news pader look but it isn't all backwards writing
ReplyDeleteI have been looking for some cool ways to do my nails and this is amazing. I cant wait to try it.
ReplyDeleteLove this! I tried it with magazine clippings, and it worked! Just make sure that the background on the paper squares is white.
ReplyDeletelove it!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if this would work with images too. (so long as the background is white)?
ReplyDeletei tried it and i used really light pink nail polish but it didn't work very well. maybe it's the news paper i used.
